World Selection Committee is a collection of experts in the fields of architecture, urban planning and landscape design who dedicate their time to analyzing and selecting projects submitted to this competition. They are responsible for ensuring that the selected projects meet the high quality standards required and their decisions are based on the careful study of all the submitted works. We are grateful to all these experts for their voluntary contribution to this competition, which would not be possible without them.
In a country like Pakistan where corruption is pervasive, the decision-making process in sports is even more murky. The committee that picks the national team has a wide range of interests to serve, including the interest of former players. As such, the choice of people to serve on a committee is inevitably fraught with pitfalls and allegations of bribery and favoritism.
PCB recently made several changes to the committee, including appointing a data analyst and ex-cricketers as selectors. But that doesn’t change the fact that the selection committee is still dominated by former cricketers with close links to the board. In the past, selectors were perceived to promote their own interest by selecting players from the same zone. This was particularly true in test matches, where regional bias was rife.
The new system makes it more difficult to manipulate the system by introducing the concept of a ‘national reserve pool’ and increasing transparency. However, it does not eliminate the possibility of ‘cross-promotion’ from other zones. This will still be a key issue in future elections to the selection committee.
The Selection Committee has the authority to decide on all non-controversial matters requiring a decision for the proper conduct of business. However, the Committee’s decisions shall be subject to review and approval by the Conference, in accordance with Article 4(2).
Simone Biles, Jade Carey and other top U.S. gymnasts are gathered in Katy, Texas for a two-day event that will determine the team to represent the United States at next month’s 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Belgium. The first day will see the athletes compete in an all-around competition, with the winner — likely Biles — locking her spot on the squad.
The Selection Committee is composed of American and international civil society leaders and alumni of U.S. Government (USG) programs working in the field of civil society, with expertise in one of the program’s thematic areas (Civic Dialogue and Peacebuilding, Open and Participatory Government, Women and Gender, and Environmental Sustainability). It also includes representatives from the local organising committee. In addition, the Selection Committee welcomes eminent scientists, practitioners and experts in the relevant areas from the general public to join its meetings, as observers with no voting rights. This will help ensure that the Selection Committee is a truly global and diversified group. All members are expected to make full disclosure of all connections they have with any candidate for consideration and to recuse themselves when necessary.
