News about Committees
Committees examine policy issues, scrutinise government work and expenditure, and consider proposals for primary and secondary legislation. When a bill is reported back to the House, a Committee Report is written which describes its purpose and scope and explains why the Committee recommends approval of the measure. Committee Reports are published in the Daily Digest portion of the Congressional Record and have a House Report number (currently 107). For more information about how bills are considered by committee, see Consideration of Bills by Committee in How Our Laws Are Made.
The Honor Committee recently released a report aggregating disciplinary data from the 2019-24 academic years. The report found that students violated the Honor Code in a variety of ways, including working with a peer, unauthorized use of outside materials, doctoring a regraded examination and writing overtime.
The EBU News Committee facilitates dialogue and cooperation between the news operations and staff of its Member organizations. It also organizes and sets the agenda for the annual News Assembly, which offers news directors, editors-in-chief and foreign desk editors an opportunity to meet and discuss how to improve coverage, reduce costs and implement new technology. The committee also advises on freedom of information, open meetings and personal privacy laws, answers telephone inquiries from the public, prepares written legal advisory opinions, and provides training for Members. The committee’s current membership was elected on 23 November 2023. The committee’s first meeting was held on 9 June 2022. The committee heard from witnesses who shared footage of the January 6 attack, discussed the involvement of the Proud Boys and examined evidence from the case.
